Warm season, drought tolerant perennial open sod-former. Grows in bunches in the south, but as a sod-former in the north, at higher elevations or when frequently watered or closely grazed. Adapted to a broad spectrum of soils by thrives on medium textured, well-drained sites. Most drought resistant of the major grasses in the Great Plains and very resistant to grazing. Highly palatable and nutritious year-round. Also used as a turfgrass.

A drought and cold tolerant cultivar adapted to northern latitudes. Establishes easily and provides excellent quality forage for summer grazing. Sod former with excellent seedling vigor and leafiness. (Released 1997, source of ecotype: Haskon county, SD)
