Cool season, rhizomatous, native grasslike perennial sod former occurring in wet and often alkaline soils. More xeric than other Carices, it can thrive in dry sites as long as its roots remain wet. Good palatability to livestock and extremely valuable for providing forage and cover for waterfowl. Excellent for riparian reclamation.
