Tufted hairgrass

Cool season, leafy, densely tufted perennial bunchgrass. Most common on moist sites between 5,000 and 13,000 ft. but may occur on drier sites at its upper limit. Very palatable to both livestock and wildlife.

First known cultivar of the species. Very hardy and well adapted to northern regions and upper elevations at lower latitudes. Excellent for low maintenance ground cover. (Released 1986, source of ecotype: Alaska and Iceland)
