Developed from subspecies duriuscula (now known as Festuca brevipila), commonly called Hard fescue. A tall, densely tufted selection with strong roots, drought resistance, and good seed yield characteristics. Performs well in rainfall zones of 14 to 30 inches. Primarily used to stabilize roadsides, ditch banks and burns. (Released 1949, source of ecotype: Union, OR)
