Lycium exsertum

Thornbush

Medium sized shrub with an open appearance and infrequent thorns. Typically found in desert washes, plains and rocky hillsides at elevations of 2,000 to 4,000 ft. Prefers well drained soils. White to purplish, bell-shaped flowers can bloom year-round, but usually from January to April. Can be deciduous during periods of drought, but will regenerate quickly when conditions become favorable. Berries and foliage are palatable to wildlife and livestock during the winter months.
