Puccinellia distans

Puccinellia distans

Alkaligrass

Cool season, perennial sod-former with vigorous, shallow, fibrous root system. Adapted to moist, or periodically moist, saline soils. Able to withstand periodic flooding and shallow water tables. Moderately palatable. Excellent for establishing cover on saline soils; also used as a turfgrass.

Varieties:
Fults II

Selected for release because it persists well on sandy sites. Germinates quickly, is extremely salt tolerant, and produces a dark green sod, good for both lawns and roadsides. (Released 1979, source of ecotype: Boulder, CO)
