Formerly known as Orthocarpus purpurascens. Low to moderate water requirement; full sunlight. Annual with purple bracts producing bright color from March to May. Occurs in large masses along hillsides and in pastures. Adapts to many soil types. In favorable years it will carpet the desert with an eye-catching, colorful display.
