Avena sativa Oats

Cool season, moderately drought tolerant, tufted annual grass adapted to most soils and sites. Offers relatively low competition to establishing perennials and is extremely palatable to grass grazing animals. Fall planted varieties not suitable for the northern temperate zones which experience long winters. Must be planted in spring in these zones, but may be planted in fall or spring in more mild climates.
