Cool season, moderately drought tolerant annual grass adapted to a wide variety of soils and sites. More productive on alkaline and saline soils than other cover crops. Easily outcompeted by establishing perennials. Winter and spring varieties available. Barley is more hardy than winter oats, but less hardy than winter wheat.
