Medicago sativa ssp. falcata Falcata alfalfa

Also known as Yellow alfalfa. A finer stemmed, finer-leaved alfalfa originating from southwestern Asia and northern Africa, now also widespread into Siberia and Mongolia. Drought tolerant and very cold tolerant. Readily hybridizes with common alfalfa, and successfully interseeds into many native ranges in the western U.S. Like most legumes, Falcata is very palatable to livestock and wildlife, including big game and waterfowl. Used in erosion control, rangeland forage enhancement, and wildlife habitat reclamation.
