Spartina pectinata Prairie cordgrass

Previous scientific name(s): Spartina michauxiana, Spartina pectinata var. suttiei

Warm season, native, perennial that is strongly rhizomatous with the ability to spread five to ten feet per year. Typically found on low, poorly drained soils along roadsides, ditches, streams and marshes. The stiff stem and vigorous rhizomes provide good shoreline cover, and its ability to dissipate wave energy, make this an excellent erosion control plant. Provides good cover for wildlife.
