Artemisia arbuscula Low sage

Also called Gray low sagebrush. A dwarf evergreen shrub to 2 ft. tall, adapted to the western U.S. in soils having an increasing clay content with depth and often with stony soil profiles. Found on wind-swept ridges, or on shallow upland soils from 2,500 to 11,500 ft. Very similar to Alkali sagebrush and also sometimes confused with Black Sagebrush. Often grows in small to medium sized islands within Basin, Wyoming, and Mountain Big sagebrush communities. Highly palatable to livestock and wildlife ungulates, and favored by sage grouse.
