Coleogyne ramosissima Blackbrush

Distinct member of the Rose family which occurs on well-drained, gravelly soils on sites from 3,000 to 6,500 ft. in elevation. Individual plants are generally two or three feet tall but some specimens grow to six feet. On open plains or mesas, this shrub often persists in dense stands to the exclusion of other shrubs. It is browsed by sheep and goats and it provides valuable cover for many small mammals and reptiles.
