Ericameria laricifolia Turpentinebush

Previous scientific name(s): Haplopappus laricifolia

Formerly known as Haplopappus laricifolius. Small evergreen shrub with a rounded shape. Occurs on arid mesas, slopes, and canyons with rocky, well-drained soils at 3,000 to 6,000 feet elevation. Small yellow flowers bloom August through November providing brilliant Fall color in Creosote bush and pinyon-juniper woodland communities throughout the desert Southwest. When crushed, the foliage has a sticky resin with an odor similar to turpentine. Poor palatability, but useful in reclamation projects.
