Moderate to high water requirement; partial shade. Blue or lavender blossoms form on dense racemes 6 to 15 inches long. A lush, somewhat succulent perennial plant found from the Coastal Ranges to mid-elevation sites in the Great Basin states. Generally prefers moist meadows, forests or stream corridors. A highly variable species with numerous subspecies.
