The Name Game

CHANGES IN BOTANICAL TAXONOMY:

It has always been an advantage to order seed using the scientific names of plants, since the common names may vary from region to region. Now, however, the scientific names are changing as advances in plant genetics reveal relationships that were previously unknown.

In this period of rapid change, species names can be confusing. We have provided extensive indexing and cross-referencing to help you find familiar names for the species you want.

Granite Seed Company lists species under the name most widely accepted today. In order to do this, we have consulted the International Organization for Plant Information and incorporated their nomenclature. Each name is cross-referenced in the text as well as in the index. A special index cross-referencing new and old is offered to make the transition as easy to follow as possible.
